Is it true that Detsky Mir left Telegram due to a law that recently came into force?

On July 15, 2025, the media reported that a large chain of Russian stores selling goods for children was leaving the platform due to a legal ban on the use of foreign social networks. We have verified the accuracy of such publications.

On July 15, the press service of Detsky Mir published in its Telegram channel fast, which said: “To our great regret, we are forced to announce that, in accordance with the new law, we can no longer communicate with our customers in the foreign messenger Telegram.” Many media outlets, retelling this press release, began to claim that the chain of stores left Telegram and decided to close its channel with more than 50,000 subscribers. Similar notes were released by “RBC", Meduza, "New newspaper - Europe", "Fontanka", SVTV TV, Sota Vision etc., as well as Telegram channels Baza (422,000 views at the time of writing this analysis) "Caution news"(318,000), "Russia 360°"(140,000), "Moment of Russia" (132,000) and "Lentach"(120,000).

In its post, Detsky Mir does not specify which law it is talking about. Some media and Telegram channels tied up network solution with by order on the creation of a state messenger based on the Max service, which was signed by Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin three days earlier. However, it is more likely that "Children's World" meant entered In force on June 1, a law prohibits government agencies, banks, telecom operators and website owners from serving customers through foreign instant messengers.

The next publication of Detsky Mir says: “We will continue to delight you with information about new promotions, products, useful and fun posts, and we will be happy to answer all your questions in our group on VKontakte and on the website.”

This means that Detsky Mir, contrary to media claims, did not announce the closure of its Telegram channel due to the entry into force of the new law. The network only warned customers that the support service would no longer accept requests on this platform, and invited them to ask questions on other social networks. Representatives of Detsky Mir confirmed this in response to a “Verified” question sent through the company’s official community on VKontakte.

Now this publication in the Telegram channel of “Children’s World” has been deleted, but new posts keep coming out. It is noteworthy that, in addition to Telegram, the network has pages blocked in Russia Instagram And Facebook, where she still posts. Moreover, in March 2022 there appeared statement the company that it will stop posting content and providing customer support on these social networks.

Note that many media outlets and channels corrected the news about Detsky Mir leaving Telegram, but not all did it correctly. So, Telegram channel Baza added post with information about the deletion of the original publication of Detsky Mir, but did not refute his statement that the chain of stores was completely leaving the platform. Meduza corrected in her publication information about the law in connection with which Detsky Mir made its decision, but did not write anything about the company continuing to post content on the platform.

The earliest publication discovered by “Verified” that “Children’s World” is completely leaving Telegram, appeared on the Astra channel at 22:51 Moscow time. This post has now been updated - the channel’s authors have added the sentence “Children’s World deleted the post without explanation.”

Thus, Detsky Mir did not announce a complete departure from Telegram. The chain of stores only said that it would no longer be able to communicate with customers on this platform. At the same time, in the same press release, the company clarified that it will continue to publish posts in its channel.
