Is it true that a South African man died after masturbating 62 times in one day?

In May 2025, a message about the curious death of a young man from South Africa spread across the Internet. We have verified the authenticity of this news.

Most recent publications report that the man was 33 years old, and include a photograph of several people carrying what appears to be a stretcher containing his body. However, you can find older ones on the Internet posts, from which the reader learns that the tragedy allegedly occurred on February 14, 2018 in Bloemfontein. The name of the deceased has also been revealed - David Mabuza. On Valentine's Day, he reportedly became depressed due to his loneliness and began masturbating heavily. The South African was found in his bedroom, and, allegedly, the man's penis was disconnected from his body - he was so intensely engaged in self-pleasure. However, the cause of Mabuza's death was stated to be a heart attack.

The news was most widely spread on Telegram, where in 2025 it was published by the channels “Ax+"(1.8 million views at the time of writing this analysis), "Rhymes and punches"(179,000), Voblya (138,000) "Broadcast 18+"(122,000), "Leprosy» (109,000), etc.

The first question that may arise for those who learn about this story is how do we know how many acts of masturbation Mabuza committed if no one was near him at the time of death? The number itself also raises doubts - there are no officially registered world records for the number of orgasms in men per day, but, judging by some publications, a figure of 62 acts of masturbation in 24 hours could claim unofficial championship several years ago.

No less incredible is the statement about the complete separation of the penis from the body. During intense masturbation, a man can earn frenulum rupture penis, burn from friction, at worst - even fracture (extremely rare). However, tearing off your penis during self-satisfaction, even if you set such a goal, is a difficult task, and such cases are not described in the medical literature. As for the risk of heart attack, then, naturally, sexual activity, like any physical activity, reflected on blood pressure and heart rate, and this has some influence on the likelihood of an attack, especially in people with a weak heart. Doctors recorded a case of stroke in a Japanese resident who actively practiced masturbation.

There are no publications about the Mabuza case in authoritative South African sources, but they are found on the websites of some Ghanaian And Pakistani Media. Both of them refer to a certain publication Nusa, which publishes news on nusa.site. In South Africa, the letter combination NUSA is known primarily as an abbreviation for the name of the local union of ethnic Nigerians (with a completely different website). The publication with this name is not mentioned on local resources, and the specified domain is free today.

However, the Internet Archive preserves several copies of the main page nusa.sitemade in 2018. As can be seen from the header, the name of the site stands for News Updates South Africa, and below there is a link to the resource group on Facebook - popular at that time (54,000 likes), but now also deleted. Preserved in the archives and article about Mabuza - however, without providing any additional details.

On the main page of nusa.site, archived on January 22, 2018, immediately below the portal’s name it is stated: “We share political humor... Day and night.”

Indeed, some other headlines make it clear that many of the publications on the site should not be taken seriously. Among them statements, attributed to the president South African Jacob Zuma, who resigned on the same day as David Mabuza's death: "Whites hate me, they ruined my life" and "I promise South Africans will not go to heaven after what they did to me." Of course, both statements are fictitious. By the way, a man named David Mabuza became vice-president of South Africa after Zuma left, which suggests the political nature of the satirical note about masturbation. A few months earlier nusa.site mentioned on one of the local resources on the list of South African sources of fake news.

Thus, the article about the death of a 33-year-old South African after 62 acts of masturbation is fictitious, and the site that published it in 2018 did not hide the satirical nature of its notes. Nevertheless, the news was actively disseminated in Russian- and English-language public pages. In May 2025, a surge of interest in this case on the RuNet occurred after a post in the Telegram channel “The goat screamed"(82,000 views, 2,700 reposts), the author of which referred to a recent publication on a Sudanese entertainment Facebook page. Note that fact checkers we sorted it out before messages about the death of young people in different parts of the world after a large number of ejaculations during masturbation (46 and 56), and they also turned out to be untrue.
