In April 2025, news spread widely on social networks that the Russian President praised the Oscar-nominated actor and said that he could play him perfectly in a movie. We have verified the authenticity of this quote.
April 4 community «The most useful public" on VKontakte (1.5 million views at the time of writing this analysis) reported: Vladimir Putin expressed a desire for Yura Borisov to play his role in the biographical film. The President of the Russian Federation is quoted as follows: “I am sure that Yuri will be able to convey all the complexity of my character on the screen. He is a talented actor who can immerse himself deeply into a role and create a credible portrayal. I would like him to play me in this film." At the same time, the post implies that filming of the biopic is already planned, and Borisov has already been approved for the role of the politician.
However, some publications say that the actor is only Maybe reincarnate as Putin, because received such an offer from an unnamed studio. Moreover, there are also slightly different statements by the Russian president. “Yuri has the necessary talent to convey the versatility of my character on screen. He knows how to get into character deeply and create compelling characters. That is why I consider him an ideal candidate for this role,” the public quotes “Cherry cola"(469,000 views). Group "Film premieres 2025 | Movies | Series”(54,000 views) shared this version of the statement: “Yuri has a rare talent for conveying complex characters. I think he's up to the task." Similar posts can be found in the public pages “Oh damn! - Where the hell? - Damn it!"(862,000 views), Stand Up Rezka (724,000), "This funny Russia"(78,000), "What the hell are you doing» (36,000), etc., as well as in Telegram channels (examples here, here And here) And Instagram*.

The authors of these messages did not indicate when and where Putin made such statements. "Verified" studied the resources of federal Russian Media And website administration of the President of Russia, but did not find any such quotes there with praise for Borisov and a desire for him to play the role of Putin. The Kremlin's press releases regularly mentioned Yuri Borisov, but not the star of the Oscar-winning film Anora, but his namesake and namesake, the ex-head of Roscosmos. Preparations for the filming of a biographical film about Putin with Borisov in the title role were also not reported in authoritative publications.
Among hundreds of comments under viral posts there is some statements And assumptionsthat in fact this news is just an April Fool's joke. And indeed: for example, a large public “Come, let's watch the movie"(1.3 million views) shared the alleged Putin quote on April 1 at 01:24 Moscow time. More than 11 hours later, a similar post was published in the public “In case of important negotiations"(726,000 views), and the quote there was slightly edited - probably the authors did so so that the platform’s algorithms considered their content unique.

One would think that this was really an April Fool's Day joke, but the original source of this news appeared a few days earlier. Back on March 29, a post about Putin and Borisov was published in the public “Multiverse of Madness” and received 146,000 views.

The owners of this community do not hide the fact that they publish fictitious stories, as they warn about in the description: “All news is taken from alternative realities.” Moreover, the original entry did not say that Borisov would eventually play Putin, that is, this was added later by other publics.
"Verified" already told, how “Multiverse of Madness” has been publishing fake announcements of Borisov’s future roles for several months. Often, posts from this public become viral on VKontakte, and sometimes spread to other resources. So, in the spring of 2024, even before the wave of invented news about Borisov, the authors of this community launched a duck about the allegedly preparing for filming of the Russian adaptation of the series “Supernatural” with Nikita Kologriv and Ivan Yankovsky. It was also distributed by large Telegram channels and even some Russian federal media.
The film about Putin is now really remove, but not in Russia. Political thriller "Kremlin wizard"from director Olivier Assayas is based on the book of the same name by Giuliano da Empoli and tells about the young television producer Vadim Baranov (supposed, that the prototype of the character was ex-aide to the President of the Russian Federation Vladislav Surkov), who, according to the plot, began working as Putin’s PR man in the 1990s, when he began his political career. The main character in the film will be played by Paul Dano, the future Russian president will be Jude Law. Filming has already begun in Riga, and on the Internet appeared the first photos with the artist in the image of Putin.

Thus, the news that Putin has expressed a desire to be played by Yura Borisov in a biopic is satirical. It appeared in a relatively small public on VKontakte, which has been posting similar posts about the actor for months, then was copied by large communities on April 1, and subsequently spread to other groups and went beyond the social network.
