In early March 2025, reports circulated on social media that the actress had publicly scolded her Kill Bill co-star for delivering a Ukrainian patriotic salute at an American Film Academy event. We checked if this is true.
On the night of March 2-3, 2025 in Los Angeles took place 97th Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Awards. Actress Daryl Hannah, presenting one of the awards, uttered the words “Glory to Ukraine” from the stage, and a few hours after that, a critical remark allegedly made by Uma Thurman went viral on the RuNet: “In the film [“Kill Bill”], Daryl played a one-eyed heroine. In life, apparently, she became blind in both eyes. Because if her eyesight had not failed her, she would never have shouted “Glory to Ukraine” at the Oscars ceremony.” Similar posts also included a screenshot of the artist’s alleged publication.
According to the TGStat service, at least 130 similar posts appeared in the Russian-language segment of Telegram, which in total received more than 1 million views. For example, the channels “KB"(249,000 views at the time of writing this analysis), "Sheikh Tamir"(123,000), "Alexander Semchenko"(83,000), "Cat Kostyan"(80,000), "Signal" (48,000), "Guardians and Executors"(36,000), etc. The Tsargrad TV channel wrote about Thurman’s “harsh response” to Hannah’s “trick” on its website and on social networks (“VKontakte", "Classmates", "Zen", Telegram). “Later on the Internet, many famous personalities could not stand it and expressed their protest,” Tsargrad noted, without specifying the names of these people. There are such posts in X And LiveJournal.
In two parts of the film "Kill Bill“Daryl Hannah played the role of antagonist Ellie Driver, a one-eyed killer from a group of bandits, who is opposed by Uma Thurman’s heroine. At the 2025 Oscars, the actress announced winner in the “Best Editing” category, but before the presentation of the nominees, she showed the “victory” gesture with her fingers, meaning victory or peace, and uttered the slogan “Glory to Ukraine.” The audience in the hall reacted to this with applause.
Later, a screenshot of a story appeared on the Internet, which Thurman allegedly published in response on her Instagram. The post consisted of a screenshot showing part of articles British tabloid Daily Mail with the headline "Daryl Hannah supports Ukraine in anti-Trump tirade at Oscars" (later headline changed), a frame with the heroine Hannah from “Kill Bill” and an English-language caption:
“In the film, Daryl played a one-eyed character. In real life, she seems to be blind in both eyes (according to the plot of the second part of the film, Thurman's character completely blinded Hannah's character. - Ed.). Because if her eyesight had not failed her, she would never have shouted “Glory to Ukraine” at the Oscars ceremony.”

As in many others debriefings stories that turned out to be fakes, “Verified” first tried to find the original source of the viral screenshot. The earliest post with this image was published on March 3 at 12:39 Moscow time in the pro-Kremlin Telegram channel “Odessa for victory!"(4600 views). Soon similar posts were posted by channels Avia.pro (16,000 views) and "Bear"(6400). All three these the names should be well known to our regular readers, since these resources have appeared in dozens of “Verified” analyzes as distributors and primary sources of various kinds of fakes, including fake stories celebrities on Instagram.
According to the timestamp at the top of the screenshot, the screenshot was taken approximately four hours after Thurman allegedly posted the story. By the time Verified drew attention to the viral image, the actress's post should have disappeared, as it would have been available within 24 hours. The actress's latest story in the special album, where they can be viewed subsequently, dates back to February 2024. In addition, English speakers did not write about Thurman’s post criticizing Hannah. fan communities two actresses or reputable media.
Another sign that points to the fake nature of the viral screenshot is the fact that the same image is being circulated everywhere, taken four hours after the publication of the supposed story. It's hard to imagine that among one and a half million Thurman’s audience on Instagram, only one user was able to record a post during the day. At the same time, not a single post or note we found contained a link to the story itself, so it is also not possible to check the availability of its archived copies.
It should be noted that at the recent Oscar ceremony, Hannah was not the only representative of the film industry who expressed support for Ukraine. So, the screenwriter of the film "Conclave» Peter Straughan, received statuette for best adapted screenplay, attached to the lapel of your jacket, a badge with a ribbon in the colors of the Ukrainian flag. Speaking to Variety, he explained, what I wanted to indicate with this symbol: there is no need to turn away from Ukraine.
As for Thurman, Verified did not find any public comments from the actress about a full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022. For example, at the Oscars in March of the same year, she joined her Pulp Fiction co-stars John Travolta and Samuel L. Jackson represented nominees for the award for Best Leading Actor. At the same time, of the trio, only Jackson wore a badge with a blue ribbon on which was written #WithRefugees (#WithRefugees) - so stars And UN Refugee Agency hoped to draw more attention to the crisis in Ukraine.
Thus, Uma Thurman did not criticize her colleague Daryl Hannah for supporting Ukraine at the Oscars in 2025. The only evidence of this story is a screenshot of the story, which originally appeared in pro-Kremlin sources, which have been caught more than once publishing similar fakes.
