Since 2024, the story about the lucky resident of Kamchatka, who accidentally discovered a large treasure, has been diverging on Russian media and social networks. We checked the authenticity of this information.
As reported in the news, a certain Kamchatka went into the forest for mushrooms, fell into a hole and found an old jug there with gold coins of the 18th century. The total cost of 6 kg of coins amounted to 79 million rubles. The man failed to keep the news in secret - rumors about the find spread throughout the village, and he had to transfer the treasure to the state. However, the court issued a decision to transfer to the mushroom 25% of the cost of coins. For these funds, the man allegedly acquired the estate and repaired the local temple. The news was accompanied by a photograph of a mushroom picked in the forest surrounded by law enforcement officers, as well as pictures of a broken jug with gold coins.
In 2024–2025, entertainment sites wrote about this ("Picabu" Trinixy.ru), Russian regional news resources (for example, some publications from Karelia And Udmurtia), as well as users Instagram, Telegram and other platforms. The news was especially popular on VKontakte, where appropriate They shared the posts Hundreds And even thousands once.

“Verified” studied publications on similar topics that appeared in any authoritative Russian federal and regional publications, but did not find evidence of the described events. It is unlikely that the media ignore the news of the detection of a treasure worth almost $ 900,000 at the current rate, especially since it was not difficult to learn about it from public networks.
There are other circumstances that are doubtful of the vestibule of a viral history. So, according to Russian legislation, for a treasure detected outside the private territory, containing products from precious metals, which has historical significance and transferred to the state, 50% of its value is paid (and without the participation of the court). 25% specified in the news is norm Soviet times, which was fixed in the mass consciousness, for example, thanks to the comedy "Incredible adventures of Italians in Russia."
At the same time, when concealing a precious treasure, which, judging by the text of the news, could take place, the violator threatens at least administrative, or even criminal liability (for Theft items with particular value, or for violation Rules for the surrender to the state of precious metals). In such a situation, a reward for a person who has found a treasure is not provided. If the Kamchatka mushroom picked the jug with coins home, then it is not very clear why in the photo it is captured in the forest surrounded by police officers. And the jug is clearly photographed against the background of the niche in which it was stored.
If you check the distributed photos through the reverse search services of the images of Tineye and Google, it turns out that they have nothing to do with Kamchatka.
Pictures With a stone jug appeared on the Web back in 2018, about six years before the news about the mushroom pickers. One of them Published, for example, the British newspaper Daily Mail in a note on how in the Italian city of Como, when demolishing the old theater, builders found a cache with gold coins of the 5th century. The cost of the treasure was estimated at millions of dollars.

In another photo used in the viral news, captured Not the Kamchatka, but the Kirov mushroom picker, who got lost in the forest in 2022, spent the night on the apiary, and in the morning was found by local police.

The earliest case of the publication of the news discovered “verified” dated February 11, 2024, when it was placed at 13:32 Moscow time by a publicObi"On VKontakte. Then they shared a post more than 300 times.
Thus, the story of a mushroom picked that found a precious treasure in the Kamchatka forest is completely fictitious. It is not confirmed by third -party sources and is accompanied by photographs taken in other places.
