Is it true that the Ukrainian military boasted on Facebook by a washing machine stolen in the Kursk region?

In December 2024, a screenshot of the post was spread on the network in which the Armed Forces of Ukraine were praised by household appliances looted in Russia. We checked the authenticity of this image.

On December 11, 2024, in Runet, the screenshot of the publication allegedly posted on the Facebook community "Lion_OPIR" became a viral. The post says that military personnel from the 225th APU brigade discovered a washing machine in the occupied territory of the Kursk region and, “so as not to disappear good”, took it to their unit. Two images are attached to the publication: a photograph of men in military uniforms standing next to the washing machine, and the screenshot of correspondence, where another photo of the man is accompanied by the message “Washing Working Machine. It works for the benefit of the Armed Forces. Thank you. " Telegram channels and Internet users who told about this publication comment on it as follows: ““ Russians steal washing machines and toilets, ”they said. Now it is clear why they said - to cover their own looted inclinations. ”

Since the beginning of the full -scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, reports of looting committed by Russian military in the occupied territories often have appeared in the media. Human rights organizations, and also Ukrainian, Independent Russian And international The publications are documented by these incidents. Residents of the liberated settlements spoke about the theft of household appliances, electronics, clothes and plumbing from their houses. Russian authorities, as a rule, Reject Accusations of crimes against the civilian population, calling such messages part of anti -Russian propaganda, which is aimed at discrediting the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. And since August 2024, when the Ukrainian army entered the Kursk region, they began in the same crimes blame Already the Armed Forces. However, at least part of these news turned out to be fakes as in the case of ads On the sale of icons allegedly taken from the Kursk region in Ukraine.

Judging by the distributed screenshot, the post about the stolen washing machine was published on the Facebook page "Lviv_opir" ("Lviv Resistance"-Ukrainian). This profile belongs to the Ukrainian charitable foundation of the same name, which was created in 2022 by scientists, museum workers and teachers of the Ivan Franco Lviv National University. By words Representatives of the "Lviv_opir", they help the Armed Forces and refugees, and also maintain contact with the commanders of military units to quickly respond to their requests. The content of the Facebook foundation page is almost completely devoted to raising funds for the needs of the army and reports on a waste of donations.

Post with the same photographs of people in military uniform near the washing machine appeared On the page "Lviv_opir" on the night of December 3 to 4. However, the signature to the pictures differs from the signature in the screenshot, which was distributed by pro-Russian Telegram channels. In the original text, the fund thanks a certain family for charitable assistance in the form of a washing machine and reports that household appliances already “serve the fighters”. It is clarified that the photo was taken in the Kharkov region of Ukraine, and not in the Russian Kursk region. The time and date of the publication of two posts coincide (adjusted for the difference in time zones).

Judging by the publications "Lviv_opir", the organization often transfers household appliances for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Similar posts With photographs of the military were published on the page, for example, December 8thwhen the washing machine was sent to the Zaporizhzhya region, and December 13th. In the latter, representatives of the Fund emphasized that they will continue to share such pictures, "since they are of particular interest to enemy information networks."

Most likely, to create a screenshot, the original publication was edited in a browser through a change in code. Using this method, you can, without using special programs, change the text on the page on any other. "Checked" more than once Disassembled Similar fakes. For example, in October, the pro-Kromelev Telegram channels distributed a screenshot from the group of the Ukrainian project “TsIna Derzhavi” on Facebook-in the publication, the Ukrainian military supposedly boasted “atrocities” committed in the Kursk region. In fact, the text of the original post was Dedicated consequences of Russian occupation.

Many such fakes, in addition to the method of creating a fake, are united by another factor. Often the primary source is the Telegram channel "Dill Fresh", about which "verified" It told in detail. In the case of the primary source allegedly stolen in the Kursk region, it was he - corresponding publication appeared there on December 7 at 16:20 Moscow time. However, the forged screenshot began to actively disperse only on December 11, after publication in the channel "Batkovich"(40,000) with an almost identical signature.

Thus, in the group of the Lion_opir charitable foundation, they did not upload a photo of a washing machine stolen in the Kursk region. The original publication is devoted to the sending of household appliances as assistance to the Ukrainian military in the Kharkov region, and the viral screenshot was forged.
