Is it true that a bar in Germany banned Ukrainians from shouting racist insults during Euro 2024 matches?

In June 2024, the media and social networks reported that a prohibitory sign appeared in one of the beer establishments in Stuttgart, duplicated in Ukrainian. We have verified the authenticity of the photo provided as evidence.

On the evening of June 19, Telegram channel “RT in Russian"(162,000 views at the time of writing this analysis) published a photo with the following description: ""It is prohibited to shout racist insults and discuss politics. Offenders will be escorted out of the bar. Football is outside politics." This warning appeared in a bar in Stuttgart during Euro 2024. The inscription is in two languages: German and Ukrainian. The photo was sent by an RT subscriber.” Telegram channel «Signal» (33,000 views) reported, based on one photo, that the same ban had appeared in other German bars.

According to the TGStat service, at the time of writing this analysis, about 70 similar posts appeared on Telegram, which in total received approximately 600,000 views. Among the channels that published the photo are “Kot Kostyan - official channel"(85,000 views), "Rhymes and Morgen"(83,000), "Patriot Z"(31,000), etc. In addition, similar publications can be found on VKontakte (examples here, here And here), "Zene", on the newspaper website "Arguments and facts", as well as on others news resources.

The viral photo shows an announcement sign standing on a table, with a sports bar logo at the top. Carambolage - this is a real establishment located in Stuttgart. At the same time, it is almost impossible to determine where exactly the photo was taken: the photo (apparently intentionally) does not show any signs, staff, menu, or bar counter. The text of the advertisement in German and Ukrainian reads: “Dear visitors! During the broadcast of Euro 2024 matches, it is prohibited to shout racist insults and discuss politics. Violators will be removed from the bar. Football is beyond politics! Bar management."

Despite the words that the viral photo was sent by an RT subscriber, Verified found earlier publications, so the original source was not the channel’s social networks. So, on June 19 at 14:17 Moscow time, a similar post with the same photo and the comment “It’s high time to put them in their place” appeared in the Telegram channel “For real"(12,000 views). Then, more than two hours later, the same entry was published by the Telegram channel “Freshness"(50,000 views). Both these resource were mentioned in dozens of “Verified” reviews, including as distributors of fake photos and videos.

“Verified” studied more than a hundred pictures of the interior of Carambolage, which were taken in different years and presented on the establishment's Google Maps page. We did not find either the table or the wall depicted in the viral photo. Moreover, the sports bar premises are made in a different style and color scheme.

Point in this story set journalists of the Ukrinform agency, whose correspondent contacted representatives of Carambolage. They confirmed that the photo was fake and was not taken in their establishment, and added that the administration does not have such requirements for visitors. “The text is unknown to us and was not written by us,” the sports bar team said in a statement.

Thus, reports that Ukrainians in a Stuttgart bar were banned from shouting racist insults and discussing politics during the broadcast of European Football Championship matches are false. The photo of the ad featuring the Carambolage logo included in evidence was taken at another unidentified location.
