Is it true that a restaurant in the US accidentally hired an animator dressed as Satan instead of Santa because of a typo in the ad?

In December 2023, reports appeared on social networks about a fatal mistake: allegedly in one of the American establishments, due to an error in the spelling of the word (Satan instead of Santa), a man in the guise of the devil came to a children's Christmas event. We checked whether this actually happened.

According to the TGStat service, the news about the animator Satan received a total of several million views on Telegram. The Celina 52 Truck Stop restaurant reportedly wanted to hire an entertainer to portray Santa Claus, but due to a typo in a newspaper ad, it invited a man dressed as Satan to a children's event. “The children were horrified by such an event. The organizers had to apologize,” it says in some posts. Authors of some channels called this case is the mistake of the year, but rejoiced because they supposedly turned out to be funny photos.

The primary source of the news we are interested in is Facebook* account Celina 52 Truck Stop with 155,000 subscribers. This is not a restaurant like approved in many of the publications mentioned above, and, as the name suggests, a truck stop in Celina, Tennessee. According to the profile description, this is the only establishment of its kind serving the Weaber Valley region. December 6, 2023 at night (Moscow time) on this page on the social network published a post that has received more than 3,100 likes: it consists of a photo of a child with a man in Satan makeup, a photo of a newspaper advertisement and a text apologizing to visitors.

Requires: Satan

Celina 52 Truck Stop is looking for someone to play Satan at our truck stop this year starting 12/5 and running until 12/24. A Christmas spirit and the ability to communicate with children are required. No background check. Call Jerry at 931-410-2650 for a response.

Dear clients,

Celina 52 Truck Stop apologizes for the confusion at our annual Photos with Santa event, which began today. Due to a typo in a newspaper ad, we mistakenly hired a professional Satan performer instead of Santa. We are working to correct this issue and will be suspending the event until we can invite the real Santa (hopefully this weekend). Please accept our apologies and free hot chocolate and cookies for the first five customers on Saturday.

We apologize for this.
Management.

But that’s not all, because the profile owners continued speak out V comments under the post.

We insist that we sent the Citizen-Statesman a request for "Santa», and the error was their fault. We cannot provide documentation to prove this as our email storage was full and our IT guy Billy deleted them today.

We fired him immediately at the end of his eight hour shift (per the contract we negotiated over the phone) and we promise that we will do better if possible.

We actively remove negative comments. We apologized, what more do you want?

Probably, by this point, some readers have already noticed that most of the Celina 52 Truck Stop statements we cited are of a distinctly humorous nature. The fact is that such a truck stop most likely does not exist, and the corresponding Facebook account was created for humorous purposes.

In addition to its Facebook profile, Celina 52 Truck Stop has an account on social networks X and yours website, where various merch is sold, some of which are advertised in the photo by humanoid aliens (obviously, they were created using neural networks). And in the “About Me” section given the history of the creation of the site: it was allegedly discovered by Dennis Herniple (a play on words, her nipple in English - “her nipple”), whose mother had a collection of clipped toenails. One day a blind man came to Herniple, and before his eyes he tore out a nail from his big toe. Referring to a non-existent book about himself, Herniple said that the men formed a connection, they started talking and, because of their love for trucks and equipment, they opened an establishment for truckers.

Celina 52 Truck Stop became famous on the Internet in the summer of 2021, when her post with a photo allegedly taken in this parking lot went viral. On picture a woman named Amelia was photographed with the appearance of American comedian Amy Schumer (in another post statedthat it’s not her) and a tear tattoo on her face. “She once accidentally hit a pedestrian while falling asleep at the wheel and got a tattoo in memory of him,” the post said. In a couple of days the story commented and Schumer herself: "Wait, what's going on at the truck stop?"

Later in the New York Post it turned out an interview with Danny Bryan, who introduced himself as a parking lot shift supervisor and social media assistant. According to him, the story about Amelia is true and such a site exists. However, the publication could not confirm the words of this person. According to Brian, Celina 52 is an alias for a real truck stop located somewhere in Upper Cumberland, Tennessee. The fictitious name is allegedly necessary because the establishment’s social networks are replete with rude, offensive, and sometimes racist content. According to Brian, the photos on the accounts were photoshopped to include captions containing obscene puns and other politically incorrect themes. “These are not our real views,” he continued. “But the best moments are when someone thinks the post is 100% serious and gets upset about it.”

About Celina 52 Truck Stop wrote and fact-checking site Snopes. According to this resource, in 2021 in description The parking lot's Facebook account was labeled "satire/parody", which is missing in 2023. The publication also spoke about another fake photo from another Celina 52 post: NHL player Phil Kessel was introduced as Trucker Phil, the words "Harry Potter Hates Ohio" were added to his T-shirt, and the puck in the hockey player's hand was replaced with a can of tobacco.

As for the viral photo with Satan, judging by the artifacts, it was created using a neural network and then superimposed on a real background. “Verified” also discovered other Facebook accounts with a similar theme - a snack bar Celina 52 Diner and autodrome Weaber Valley Speedway. Both pages also publish non-existent news, illustrated with pictures from neural networks.

The story itself about the typo that caused the word “Santa” to become “Satan” is not original. For example, in 2019 in the Canadian newspaper Comox Valley Record due to error actually appeared advertisement for a photo opportunity with Satan at a Christmas event in Courtenay. At the same time, local resident Tim Miller dressed up in a costume with elements of the images of Santa Claus and the Prince of Darkness and in this form took photographs with dozens of people. Subsequently, this story became popular on American television and in the press.

In 2020 in the American city of Albuquerque, New Mexico happened similar case. Then the local art collective Antlion Entertainment announced share "Sit on Satan's knee." “Actually it was a typo, a technical error, and I just accepted it because everyone needs money, money is tight right now,” told anonymous artist, organized fundraising for humanitarian purposes. It is quite possible that the information about the typo was a joke, given the provocative nature previous team work. However, the University of New Mexico, where the action was to take place, did not authorize the event.
