In November 2023, news spread on the Internet that the juice manufacturer “Ya” had released a new product - birch sap under the brand “Ya Russian” and with the Russian flag on the packaging. We decided to check whether this information is true.
People started writing about the new juice on November 24 entertaining portals, and social network users (“VKontakte", "Classmates", X etc.) shared photos and videos of juice packages on store shelves. Users of blogging platforms also talked about the new product (for example, “Zen" And "Peekaboo"). Many Telegram channels also wrote about this: “Aggregator"(224,000 views at the time of writing this analysis), Kosti (180,000), "Not Morgenstern"(136,000), "Migrants - everything is as it is"(89,000), "Breaking news» (71,000), etc. Some Internet users assumed, that this is a collaboration of the brand with the singer Shaman, who became widely known thanks to the song “I am Russian.”
Judging by the design of the price tags, the video with the supposedly released birch sap “Ya” on the counter was filmed in one of the Magnit supermarkets. However, in online store This network does not have such a product. It was not possible to find such juice on the websites of other popular food retailers in Russia: “Crossroads", "Ashana", "Dixie", "Pyaterochki", "Ribbons" And "ABCs of taste" On the official website The Ya brand has only five varieties of juice in its line: cherry, orange, grapefruit, mango and apple. There is not a word about any new product, which is strange, because it would be in the interests of the manufacturer to attract the attention of consumers to it.
Two videos and several photos, taken in front of the same store shelf, most likely by the same person, have gone viral on the Internet. From just one photo - where the juice is in the basket - it is impossible to say with all certainty that it was taken at the same time as the others, since, apart from the juice itself and other goods chosen by the buyer, little is visible on it (although the floor covering matches what is shown in the other photographs). There's one more thing image hand holding a box of juice, very different from the others, but upon closer inspection it is clear that the picture was mounted in a photo editor, and the juice package itself is identical to the one held by the author of the other photos and videos. There is no other visual evidence of the product's existence, although judging by the buzz on social media, there's a good chance many would be willing to take a photo and share it if they saw the drink in a supermarket. However, judging by the comments, none of the readers saw such juice in stores with their own eyes, only in the same photos and videos distributed. In addition, if you look closely, you can see that under the shelf with birch sap there are price tags for cherry, orange, apple and mango juice - the price for the new product is not indicated.

If you look at the top edge of the birch sap packages in the photographs, you will notice that they look like something is glued to the front of the package. Moreover, the stickers are not placed uniformly on the packages: it is clear that the edges of the package fall on one or the other letter of the word “Russian”, which should not happen during the industrial production of packaging and passing control at the factory. There is also a noticeable difference in the design - the coating of the birch sap package looks more matte than the cherry sap next to it. The “I” logo itself is also visually noticeably different, as are the rest of the inscriptions on the packaging.

When the author of the video takes a package of birch sap from the shelf, it is clear that behind it there is an orange one, which corresponds to the price tag on the shelf. This suggests that several counterfeit packages of “Ya Russian” juice were displayed in front of the real product.
The Daily Storm reached out to the manufacturer of Ya juice, PepsiCo, for comment. There are journalists reported, which have nothing to do with birch sap, there is no such drink in their line. Anton Korobkov-Zemlyansky, official representative of Shaman, in his Telegram channel stated, that the juice “I am Russian” was not put on sale, and the singer has nothing to do with the campaign. The press secretary accused PepsiCo of launching “fake advertising for the sake of cheap hype.”
The earliest publication of a photo with juice that “Verified” was able to find is came out in the anonymous Telegram channel “Armed Forces of the Russian Federation” on November 24, 2023 at 13:26 Moscow time. The post was deleted almost immediately and posted again at 1:41 p.m. Literally a few minutes later the news started publish and many others Telegram channels patriotic focus. Two videos appeared a little later (at 13:57) on the Telegram channel “Aggregator"
Thus, several photos and videos with birch sap “I am Russian” on the shelves are staged. A careful study of them shows that the juice packaging is noticeably different from the original ones, and they are not made very carefully. It was not possible to find such a product in any Russian supermarket chain “Provereno”, and the juice manufacturer “Ya” denies that there is a similar drink in its line.
