Henry Cavill is a British actor, best known for his role as Geralt from the TV seriesThe Witcher” from Netflix and Superman from the so-called “DC Extended Universe”. The fact that Cavill will play a superhero from Krypton announced in January 2011, and the first film with his participation, “Man of Steel", was released in the summer of 2013.
The earliest mention of a story about Uncle Superman we discovered in Argentine magazine Viva for May 2013 - the issue was dedicated to the actor and the upcoming film about a superhero with him in the title role.
“I’ll tell you a very funny story,” said a tall, handsome young man sitting in a room at the Mirage Hotel in Beverly Hills with anticipation. — I have two nephews, six and four years old. The eldest is known at school for constantly telling made-up stories and lying. During one of the lessons, the teacher asked the students to talk about their family and what they do. Then the boy says: “My uncle is Superman.” The teacher looked at him tiredly: “Don’t lie.” But he was very confident in his words and continued to insist on his own. When his mother came to pick him up, the teacher decided to talk to her and said: “He’s lying again. I don’t know where he got this habit from. Now he says that his uncle is Superman.” And my mother replies: “Actually, it’s true.”
Ahead of the blockbuster's world premiere in June of that year, Cavill came on the Jay Leno show. There's an actor there told, that because of a video game, he missed a call from the director who wanted to tell Henry that he got the role of Superman. Cavill then said he couldn't get through to his parents or brothers to tell them the good news. Then the conversation turned to the nephews and their reaction to the role.
Yes, I have two nephews. And by the way, my nephew Thomas was so impressed that one day he ran to school... By the way, keep in mind: Thomas is famous for often telling stories and simply making up all sorts of things in front of the teacher... He is seven years old. So, he goes to school in a Superman costume, he’s all glowing, because Uncle Henry is Superman. And the teacher asks: “Thomas, why are you dressed like that? You shouldn't wear this to school." And he answers: “Because my uncle is Superman.” He said this in a casual tone. And she says, “Yeah, okay,” and takes him aside, he’s in trouble. She's waiting for his mom after school, he looks sullen and all. "Oh no. What did he do this time? Is he lying again? And they say to mom: “Listen, yes, he said that his uncle was Superman. For God's sake, this is too much." And my brother's wife was like, "Oh... Actually, that's kind of true."
About the same story Cavill repeated in July 2018 on the Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest show. The host asked the actor if his niece and nephews are happy about the fact that their uncle is Superman.
Of course yes! And there's a good story about my nephew Thomas. One day he went to school, and that day he had to talk about his family. And he told the other kids at school that his uncle was Superman. Of course, the teacher said: “Thomas, you can’t lie in school. That's not the way it is done here. I appreciate good fairy tales, but it’s better not to get carried away with them.” And Thomas stuck to his line and continued: “No, no, no, my uncle is really Superman. I swear, honestly! Anyway, she got mad at him and he got into trouble. And when my brother's wife was picking him up from school, the teacher pulled her aside and said, “Look, we don't encourage our kids to tell lies in school. And I recommend that you do the same." And of course, she answered: “What exactly?” Knowing that Thomas was indeed telling lies, she tensed and thought, “Oh, no! Again? Not this!” They answered her: “Hmm, he said that his uncle is Superman.” And she was like, “I don’t want to upset you, but it’s all true.”

So, although there are slight differences in the three versions given by the actor himself, he did not say that he dropped or picked up his nephew from school. Cavill also did not mention that Thomas’s parents were called to school or that the child’s mother asked him to come to class or teach a class hour. Also, in the actor’s story, the children did not complain about the boy to the teacher. Moreover, according to open data, the story told did not take place in 2018 or 2014, but between January 2011 and May 2013. Since we were talking about the family's impressions of Cavill getting the role, most likely it was in 2011.
As for the viral photo of Cavill allegedly taking Thomas to school, that description of the photo is also untrue. According to a reverse image search, this photo of the actor first appeared online only in September 2013, several months after Henry told the story about his Uncle Superman. According to fan resources, the paparazzi filmed Cavill on walk with my brother and his family on September 7 in London. There are several other photos showing Cavill's brother, sister-in-law and second nephew.

Apparently, someone based the fiction on a real story told more than once by Cavill, as well as a scene from a film about another DC comics hero, Shazam. In this film, one of the superhero's friends promised his classmates that he would come to his school, but they did not believe him. “Yeah, and then Superman will bring dessert, right?” - one of the hooligans joked. However, at the end of the film, both Shazam and Superman actually came to the school cafeteria.
