At the end of June 2023, covers of foreign publications Charlie Hebdo and Humor Times appeared on the Web, ridicuating the President of Ukraine. We decided to check if these are the real covers.
French magazine Charlie Hebdo
On June 23, the cover of the French satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo began to spread on the network. In the figure in front of the bank’s employee there is Zelensky, supporting the corpse of a drowned man and pronouncing a phrase for him: “I am a survivor from Titan, and I would like to give all my money to Ukraine.” On the wall to explain the context, is a TV that shows the battanian bathyscaphe, crashed June 18. This deep -sea apparatus was immersed to the wreckage of the Titanic liner, among the passengers there was a British billionaire Hamish Harding. Apparently, he portrays a drowned man on a caricature. According to Archive On the official website of the magazine, the freshest number that was released by that time is the issue of No. 1613 of June 21. Charlie Hebdo traditionally comes out in digital form on Wednesdays, and on paper appears in kiosks on Thursdays. There were no special issues in the second half of June at all.

In the viral image, the artist’s signature is added - Juin. Such an author really is in Charlie Hebdo, his name Pierrick Juen. But in Gallery There are no covers of the authorship of this artist on the website of the publication of such a caricature, and in general, his drawings are made in a different style.
Since the beginning of the Russian full -scale invasion of Ukraine, several Charlie Hebdo covers have been Dedicated Putin, and not one - Zelensky. In the Russian segment of Telegram, meanwhile, over the past year, at least ten fake covers of the French satirical publication, which depicted the President of Ukraine, Ukrainian military and Ukrainian citizens, appeared. In particular, the authors of fake covers painted Zelensky, Cracking Gifts of the Magi, portrayed the President of Ukraine In the form of a dog, Fleaned Energy crisis provoked by Russian shelling of Ukrainian cities.
The primary source of the fake cover with Zelensky and the drowned man became the Telegram channel "Before everyone else. Well, almost. Special operation", Where the post with the cover appeared on June 23 at 18:15 Moscow time (10,000 views). It is in this channel that the fake covers of foreign publications most often appear: Charlie Hebdo, El Jueves, Courrier International, EULENSPIEGEL, The New European.
American magazine Humor Times
On June 20, the cover of the American satirical magazine Humor Times appeared on the Web. On the caricature of the Delorean DMC-12 car from the movie trilogy "Back to the future»Sunns Zelensky. The characters of the film sitting in the car say: "On the way to the future, it remains to finish one trifle." This cover, in particular, wrote Telegram channels "DPR 🅉 info 🇷🇺"(48 000),"TV"(25,000),"Antifses | Operational news channel"(22 000) and Abbas djuma (11,000).
In the upper left corner of the viral image it is indicated that this is issue No. 375, in the right corner - the inscription "July 2023". However, the numbers for 2023 can be found in sectionwhere the order of individual issues is placed. Number 375 for July 2023 is already available in this section, and a completely different image on its cover is a caricature of Pence Mike, a former US Vice President (2017–2021), who recently announced the desire to run for the head of state in 2024.
There are smaller technical details that distinguish the fake cover from the present. In particular, this is a font of secondary inscriptions. Above the name of the magazine on all numbers states that earlier (until 2007) the publication was called Comic Press News. From room to number the style of this inscription It does not change. But on the fake cover, the font differs from the real: the intervals between letters are larger, and quotation marks are also different.
