A touching photo is being circulated on social media showing a boy walking neck-deep in water and holding a puppy above his head. It is reported that the photo was taken after the dam broke at the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric station. We decided to check the veracity of this image.

Subsequently, photography is regularly appeared on various entertaining websites and social networks both as a demotivator and simply as touching illustration. 

In 2014, this image was used in publications about flooding in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Local blogger wrote: “The big heart of a little boy who couldn’t lie showed us all what we should be, how we should help those who need help, how we should understand those who are different in some way, be it wealth, color or religion.”

Thus, the picture appeared on the Internet ten years before the disaster at the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station and has nothing to do with it. Unfortunately, it was not possible to reliably determine where and under what circumstances the photograph was taken.
