Is it true that the World Economic Forum called for allowing animal marriages?

The news that the WEF has come out in support of legalizing marriages between humans and animals to promote “diversity and inclusion” has been making the rounds online. We have verified the accuracy of such publications.

Dozens posts with shocking news appeared on social networks "VKontakte" And Twitter. They didn’t ignore her and users blog platforms "Zen" The news spread widely on Telegram: for example, a TV presenter wrote about it on his channel Ruslan Ostashko (153,000 views at the time of writing the analysis), as well as channels “Ukraine.ru"(97,000 views), "New World Order - Resistance"(41,000 views), "RUSSIA TODAY PUTIN"(20,000 views) and others.

The first report that the WEF has taken the initiative to legalize sex and marriage with animals, as they will promote inclusivity, appeared on March 1, 2023 on the English-language news portal NewsPunch, and with the fact checked sign (that is, “checked”). It was screenshots of the page of this portal that spread throughout the Russian-language segment of social networks. The news text clarifies that the WEF has “ordered” governments around the world to “take immediate steps towards this controversial initiative.” No other details are given - neither the name of the person who voiced this proposal (as if the entire forum was its author), nor the exact quote. The cover of the news features a photo of Klaus Schwab, president of the World Economic Forum and hero popular conspiracy theories, so it may seem that he was the one who proposed legalizing marriage with animals. However, his name is never mentioned in the article.

NewsPunch website is changed the name of the portal Your News Wire, which in 2017 recognized one of the most popular sources of fake news on Facebook. “Verified” has repeatedly refuted fakes posted on this site. For example, the news that the first lady of Ukraine Elena Zelenskaya spent 40,000 euros on shopping during an official visit to Paris, which Mel Gibson called the entire Hollywood elite pedophiles or what in the Philippines Bill Gates they want to arrest him for murder. By data Poynter Institute, by mid-2018, about 80 Your News Wire reports had been debunked by independent fact checkers.

Our fellow fact checkers at Snopes contacted to the WEF for comment on the news about the call for the legalization of marriage with animals. The official representative of the organization, Jann Zopf, responded: “This is a fake story aimed at discrediting the important work that the World Economic Forum is doing on serious global issues. The WEF has never made such statements and has neither the authority nor the intention to issue orders to governments, other organizations or individuals.”

As an example of one of the countries that has already supported the WEF initiative, the author of the article in NewsPunch cites Spain, where it is supposedly now legal to have sex with animals if they do not suffer serious injuries. "Checked" previously sorted it out This news revealed that it was not at all about the legalization of bestiality, but only about replacing outdated wording in the law and, in fact, about stricter regulation of such crimes in this European country.

Also, NewsPunch authors claim that the WEF is going to spread bestiality throughout the world through the influence of the media. In support they cite tweet American journalist James Lindsay, which contains a screenshot of an article from a certain publication called Pox with the headline “Explained why the recent legalization of sex with animals in Spain is a triumph of inclusivity and diversity.” However, no Pox publication exists, it is just a parody of the portal Vox. Similar collages are contained in other Lindsay tweets, for example, with odious headlines in the spirit of “When women+ (women wearing size clothes larger than 16 according to the American size system, that is, larger than 54 Russian, - approx. “Checked”) they say, other women should stand aside, be silent and know their place” or “Plane crashes because of diversity—that’s the likely effect of diversity in aviation, and that’s why it’s worth it.” That is, the argument of the authors of the NewsPunch article about the normalization of bestiality through the media comes down to an obviously humorous screenshot of a Twitter user.

Thus, the primary source of the news about the WEF’s calls for the legalization of marriages with animals is a message on a website that has previously been repeatedly “caught” distributing fakes. The authors of the note do not provide any details about who proposed such an initiative and under what circumstances, and do not provide links to public statements by the WEF or reports from insiders. Representatives of the organization deny involvement in such calls and the very possibility of “ordering” anything to the governments of countries. There is no reliable evidence that the WEF plans to legalize bestiality at the global level.
