Is it true that Serbian students suggested name to name a black hole in honor of Vladimir Zelensky?

At the end of November 2022, the media and Telegram channels reported that the students of the University of Belgrade came up with the initiative to name one of the astronomical objects in honor of the President of Ukraine. We checked the reliability of such messages.

November 29 "Arguments and facts" RIA Fan, "Red spring","Political expert" SM News And other media reported that students from Serbia allegedly proposed to name the black hole in honor of the Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky and even created a petition in support of their initiative on the popular Change.org website. However, after the petition scored 30,000 signatures, the portal administration deleted it. “The Serbs do not give up and are going to ensure that the cosmic body has the name of the earth's“ body ”, which devours everything around him,” the authors of notes on this topic note.

Telegram was told about this news, among other channels "Ostashko! Important"(342,000 subscribers at the time of writing this analysis), Putin TG Team (312 000), "Uncle Glory"(183,000) and"Tsargrad-TV"(104 000). Also, users talked about the initiative in Serbia Facebook*, Twitter, "VKontakte" And YouTube.

The materials published on the media sites do not have any details about the initiative allegedly proposed in Serbia. The authors of notes do not report, the students of which university performed with her, what is their name, what kind of black hole they offer to name in honor of Vladimir Zelensky. There are no petitions in these publications and links or screenshots on Change.org, allegedly created to support this idea. More importantly, we could not find similar messages in large Serbian and international media.

As the authors of publications in a number of publications indicate, the source of information for them served Record In the Telegram channel "Ukraine.ru" (185,000 subscribers). To her, as well as to other posts about this plot, a video of a slightly more than a minute is attached as evidence, which sets out the essence of the proposal of Serbian students. At the same time, all information is given in the form of text in English, while audio -core is limited by background music.

This video states that the initiative belongs to a group of students who study at the Faculty of Physics of Belgrade University. The fact that the petition on Change.org received a big response, we learn from a student named Radoy Markovich. He talks about the fact that he considers the removal of the petition unjust and intends to nevertheless bring his idea to the end together with like-minded people.

In the upper left corner of the video there is a logo of the German broadcasting company Deutsche Welle **. In general, the video is made in the style of publications that DW placed On YouTube in Shorts format - short vertical videos that can be watched without sound, focusing only on the explanatory text added during installation. In the video that was published by Ukraine.ru and other Telegram channels, the same font and other design elements are used, as well as a clogging screensaver with a slogan Made for Minds (“Made for minds”).

However, the video on which Telegram channels relied in their posts contain a lot of suspicious errors and inaccuracies:

  • The video uses the phrase Space Object - this is tracing paper from the Russian language, which is offered by the “Google translator” when entering the phrase “space object”; correct Translation - Astronomical Object (literally "Astronomical Object");
  • This is far from the only detail that indicates the likely use of an online translator when writing a text: for example, in English you cannot say to Create a Petition (“Create a petition”), dictionaries in this phrase in this phrase Recommend use the verbs to start, to launch or to organize;
  • In the credits in several places, articles were missed at once, verbs are used not at the time in which it is necessary, as well as non -formal turnover uncharacteristic for the media;
  • Faculty of Physics at the University of Belgrade really exists, however, the authors of the video missed one letter in its name (not the Faculty of Physic, but the Faculty of Physics).

Finally, in the video allegedly published by Deutsche Welle, inaccuracies that are uncharacteristic directly for this media are made. Firstly, the authors of his English-speaking version write verbs like Immortalize ("Perpetuate") or Recognize (“Recognize”) precisely through Z, while the spelling used in the video through s characteristic For British media and generally British spelling. Secondly, DW, like Many others German media, when the President of Ukraine, use the transliteration of his name from the Ukrainian language - Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and in the viral video, which became the basis for the news of several media, the Ukrainian leader was called Vladimir Zelenski.

Moreover, we were not able to find this video either at YouTubenor in Instagram*, where journalists also lay out vertically oriented short reports. But on the DW Documentary channel we found video, which is captured, as stated in a viral video, initiative Serbian students led by Radoy Markovich. That's just in reality it was shot back in 2017 and dedicated to schoolchildren from the German city of Kotubus. They united to protect their classmate from Afghanistan - his petition for the provision of asylum in Germany was not satisfied, and the young man was threatened with deportation. The young man is the name of Vali Yusafzai, and it was in the viral video that he was given to Radoy Markovich from the University of Belgrade.

The viral video where schoolchildren from a catbuses are sent out for students from Belgrade is not the first time when the Russian media and Telegram channels compare Vladimir Zelensky with a black hole, and they attribute the idea of such a comparison to foreigners. Previously, “verified” has already analyzed inaccurate reports on how an American television channel showed Speech of Zelensky instead of the sounds of a black hole, in Poland Drawn graffiti about the Ukrainian president, sucking money, and the German satirical magazine released A similar cover.

Thus, in no authoritative source there are no messages about the petition created by students of the University of Belgrade. The only evidence that the Telegram channels and the media are used by the news are used by the video allegedly made by Deutsche Welle. In this video, which is absent in the social networks of DW, not only made extremely uncharacteristic for such a large media error, but also used personnel five years ago, which the creators of the fake for recent shooting were used.

*Russian authorities They think Meta Platforms Inc., which owns social networks Facebook and Instagram, an extremist organization, its activities in Russia are prohibited.

** The Russian authorities consider Deutsche Welle a foreign agent.
