Is it true that the son of Dmitry Medvedev was recalled by an American visa and ordered him to leave the United States within 48 hours?

In early June 2022, Russian and foreign sources spread the news about the actions of the American authorities against Ilya Medvedev, the son of the ex-president of the Russian Federation. We checked whether this news has serious grounds.

The information message did not contain any details and consisted of two facts: Ilya, the son of Dmitry Medvedev, withdrew the visa in the United States, and he must leave the States for two days.

The news was also transmitted by popular Telegram channels ATF And Nexta Liveas well as the media representing Ukraine "Fifth channel", "Judicial lawying newspaper", "Reviewer" And "Ukrainian national news". In one of his broadcasts of this story, a Russian opposition politician affected Nikolai Bondarenko. The news was also discussed at "Radio Liberty".

Many media noted that the information in question was not confirmed. At the same time, some referred to the Nexta Live channel as a source of news. However, it is easy to notice that this resource placed the specified message far from the first. So, post on Nexta appeared at 07:15 UTC (10:15 Moscow time) June 5, while on the channel ATF The news was published on June 4 at 16:10 UTC. In the latter case, two features are noteworthy: the message begins with the words “from Silicon Valley good news”, and then it is specified that Ilya Medvedev should leave California (and not the USA). The same details are present in messages that appeared even earlier on Twitter - in 11:15 (391 retweet) and in 12:17 the same day. From this we can conclude that the news began its walking in this social network. Indeed, the earliest post we have found appeared in 10:17 In the morning on Twitter, a Ukrainian entrepreneur and investor Denis Dovgopologist. He looked like this:

As you can see, this is not only the oldest post with the news - he also gathered a large number of retweets. And the next day, Dovgopoli in his accounts on social networks made the following statement:

So, Denis Dovgopay calls himself the primary source of the news, and emphasizes that the news is unverified. Let's look at the arguments that he leads by adding several of his own to them.

  • Indeed, not a single more or less authoritative world media as of the morning of June 8 confirmed this news. If such loud information is true, at least the American news agencies would instantly smash it. Here we see that the distributor was a private Ukrainian source.
  • About four days have passed since the appearance of the news. Ilya Medvedev, according to her, had to leave the United States. However, there is still no confirmed or even unconfirmed information about this by large media.
  • The son of the Third President of the Russian Federation is known very little. Was born He is August 3, 1995. In the summer of 2012 Reportedthat Ilya entered the International Faculty of Internal Affairs of MGIMO. Four years later, the correspondent of the Moscow Komsomolets Caught Medvedev Jr. after the exam and took an interview from which it turned out that the young man was going to enter the magistracy and work in Russia. In 2020, Dmitry Medvedev toldthat his son is engaged in private business projects, including in the field of digital economy. Authoritative sources do not report either to living in the United States, or even more about the presence of American citizenship. But even if you allow the first, it is unlikely that the son of one of the most influential and tough in rhetoric politicians of the Russian Federation as of June 2022 was still in the United States. At least for security reasons.
  • In February 2022, Medvedev Sr. declaredthat neither he nor members of his family had and have neither foreign accounts, nor any property abroad.
  • Some, as an argument in favor of truth, lead the recent publication In the Telegram channel Dmitry Medvedev, in which he criticized the West for sanctions against family members of Russian officials. However, it is important to note that this publication appeared two and a half hours before the dovgopologian tweet, that is, there is no evidence that Medvedev thus reacted to the news, and not the news “grew” from Medvedev’s post.
  • After the sanctions against the children of Russian officials and businessmen, the American authorities reported openly and by name. And in end of February, and c early March, and c early April. Ilya Medvedev did not fall into any of these lists, unlike his father.

Thus, the information available today does not speak at all in favor of the veracity of the news about the deportation of Ilya Medvedev. Even its main distributor the next day questioned this fact.
