Is it true that the textbooks found in the Ukrainian school promote Nazism?

According to Russian media reports, the Rosgvardists found textbooks in the school of the Kharkiv region with the propaganda of the ideas of Nazism, created on the basis of NATO trainingis and the US Army. We checked whether there are really calls to Nazism in those textbooks.

April 28, 2022 Official website of the Russian Guard Published The news that in one of the schools of the Kharkiv region, the Rosgvardists found educational literature for high school students, promoting the ideas of Nazism. “The manuals were created on the basis of documents of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Charter of the Ground Forces of the United States, NATO methodological materials for conducting military operations,” the message says. The Russian Guard explains that, according to information received, the discipline “Protection of the Fatherland” was taught in this school from the 10th grade, where students were told about the structure of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, taught military, physical and medical training. The main emphasis in educational materials is based on the statement that the Russian Federation is an enemy, aggressor and occupier for Ukraine and Western countries, the Russian Guard writes: “Schoolchildren were instilled in hatred, enmity, anger in relation to Russian citizens.” Dozens of federal Russian Media and users social networks Shared this news.

In the narrowest sense under Nazism I mean The political ideology of Hitler Germany. After the end of World War II, the term acquired a broader meaning and received the name “neo -Nazism”. Neonazism Barrows elements from the Nazi doctrine, including chauvinism, fascism, racism, xenophobia, homophobia and anti -Semitism. The ideology of neo -Nazism is based on the conviction of the superiority of the white race and “their people”, an irreconcilably hostile attitude to the left political forces standing in the positions of internationalism, as well as the use of Nazi symbolism and the praise of Adolf Hitler. According to reports UN, right -winging organizations and movements exist in many countries of the world, including Russia And Ukraine.

We downloaded the electronic version of the textbook found by Rosguardi in the Kharkov school on the Internet, and tried to find specific examples of the promotion of the ideas of Nazism in it. Judging by the photographs published in message Russian Guard, we are talking about textbook For the 10th grade "Protection of the Fatherland". The Russian Federation is mentioned in the text six times. Three times - in the section "System of World Collective Security" in the context of determining the hybrid war. As examples, the authors of the textbook lead to the participation of Soviet and Russian troops in the Karabakh conflict in 1980-1990, the Russian-Georgian war of 2008 and the actions of Russia in the Donbass since 2014. There, according to the textbook, "groups of Russian military personnel organized and coordinated armed detachments of separatists from the local population in eastern Ukraine, avoiding direct entry of troops across the Ukrainian border."

Two more references - in the section "National interests of Ukraine and threats of national security." The text tells about Military doctrine of Ukraine In all editions: 1993, 2004, 2005 and 2015. The description of the latest edition states that the new doctrine Determines Russia by a military enemy of Ukraine in connection with its actions in Crimea and the situation in the Donbass. In addition, “in the context of the capture of Crimea and the war in the east of Ukraine, the interests of national security and defense of Ukraine require a significant deepening of relations with NATO. The entry into the NATO is considered as the most reliable way to ensure the national security of Ukraine, ”the retelling of the doctrine printed in the textbook says.

Finally, in the section “Fundamentals of International Humanitarian Law”, the textbook tells about the history of the emergence of the concept of international humanitarian law, which was necessary to regulate hostilities. The textbook lists the armed conflicts of the 21st century, such as the Civil War in Libya (2011) and Syria (since 2011), conflicts in Mali (2012-2013), Sudan (since 2012), Yemen, Afghanistan, Colombia, Israel and Palestine. A conflict in the Donbass has been considered the same list. “The war in the East, or the war in the Donbass, is a military conflict, which was launched by Russian detachments in April 2014. Since mid -2014, regular formations of the Russian army have been introduced into the territory of Ukrainian Donbass. Although officially Russia, not paying attention to the many evidence of its involvement in the war and the invasion of Ukraine, does not recognize the facts of the participation of its armed forces, therefore, the war is considered from the Ukrainian side as an undeclared or “hybrid war”, ”the authors of the textbook write.

The first 32 pages of the textbook are occupied by three partitions mentioned, and the next 219 pages are devoted to general information about military service in Ukraine, the basics of drill, military and physical training and the rules for the provision of first aid. Russia in these sections appears only in a historical context as a country - a participant in world wars or as a manufacturer of weapons used by the Armed Forces of Ukraine. None of the mention of Russia is associated with the proclamation of the superiority of the Ukrainian nation over the rest or calls for aggression against the Russian people. There are also no calls for chauvinism, fascism, racism, xenophobia and anti -Semitism in the textbook.

Despite the mention of Russia as an aggressor, which threatens Ukraine’s right to sovereignty and self-determination, the “main emphasis” is not placed on this, according to the Russian Guard. In fact, the textbook is similar to modern Russian Textbooks For OBZh for 10-11 grades, which in a similar way talk about the military glory of the Russian Federation, the principles of military security of the state and the basics of military training.
