Is it true that Ukraine prepared medals for the capture of Crimea in advance?

Russian sources have circulated photographs of the Ukrainian medal “For the Capture of Crimea,” which Russian troops allegedly found in the military registration and enlistment office of the occupied Kherson region of Ukraine and which proves the foiled Ukrainian plan to attack the peninsula. We checked how true this information is.

Messages about the allegedly found Ukrainian awards for the capture of Crimea first appeared in Telegram channels on March 24, 2022. Message text clarified, that “the strike group of the Ukrainian Armed Forces was planning an attack on Crimea, and with military naval support from NATO countries.” Medals and award certificates had already been prepared for the future heroes of the supposedly planned offensive, but “as always, Putin was ahead of everyone” by being the first to begin military operations against Ukraine. In a few days publication channel "Operational reports" was read by more than 400,000 subscribers, and fast Colonelcassad - more than 800,000. Later this information was reprinted by Russian Media, referring to the same Telegram channels. The news was also commented on by the writer Zakhar Prilepin, head of Roscosmos Dmitry Rogozin, KP correspondent Edward Chesnokov and other famous personalities. The point of their comments was that they now have proof: if Russia had not launched a special operation, Ukraine would have invaded Crimea.

The adviser to the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine drew attention to gross errors in the award certificate Anton Gerashchenko, President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky and many Ukrainian Media. A number of shortcomings indicate that the medals and award certificates are fake.

1. In Ukrainian office work, presidential decree called "decree", not "mandate" (example similar decree).

2. There was a mistake in the initials of the President of Ukraine. Vladimir Zelensky in Ukrainian spelling is not Alexandrovich, but Oleksandrovich. That is, the correct initials of the president are V.O., and not V.A.

3. Unlike Russian officials, the President of Ukraine does not use a middle name in official documents, but signs “V. Zelensky" (example similar document).

4. In all official documents of Ukraine is written "Autonomous Republic of Crimea", not just "Crimea".

5. Crimea is part of Ukraine within the borders of the state recognized by the UN, which means the medal should be called “For the return (return) of Crimea” or “For the liberation (zvlennya) of Crimea,” but not for the capture.

6. The found medal is visually different from other Ukrainian state awards for military service, in particular from medals "For impeccable service" And "For military service of Ukraine". The certificate for the medal also raises doubts - primarily due to the lack of a serial number.

7. In the end, the printing performance of the ID itself clearly leaves much to be desired. Still, a state award is usually accompanied by a more substantial document, rather than a piece of paper printed on a black and white printer.

It is difficult to determine the real author of this fake. The earliest we found mention was published by the Telegram channel “Operational reports”. A few hours later the fake is already dialed popularity among supporters of the special operation, organically fitting into their rhetoric: if not for the actions of Russia, Ukraine attacked to Crimea and Donbass.
