For several years now, a photo has been circulating on the Internet in which the widow of billionaire David Rockefeller is supposedly smiling during a funeral. We checked which woman is actually captured in the photo.
A photo of the “smiling widow of a billionaire” in a black veil has been circulating on the Internet since 2016. In RuNet, she is most often accompanied by a signature that this is Rockefeller’s wife. For example, on VKontakte there are more than a hundred similar text posts, some from which they collected thousands of likes And hundreds of thousands views. And the Cynic community, which has more than 750,000 subscribers, posted such a recording five times in just two years. There are similar publications on English language.
There is another version, according to which the picture shows “the widow of a 90-year-old millionaire.” This option can be found, for example, in "Odnoklassniki", on Facebook, V Twitter and on "Peekaboo". And on the Smeyakaka website the widow even got a name Margarita or Irina — there are also two versions.
In fact, the photo shows Natalie Portman during the filming of the biographical drama "Jackie" (Jackie) directed by Pablo Larraín. In the film, the actress played Jacqueline Kennedy, the wife of the 35th US President John F. Kennedy. The film tells about the events in the life of the first lady of the United States after the murder of her husband in 1963.
The original photo of a smiling Portman at the end of February 2016 was shared by portals Just Jared And Daily Mail. Photo made while filming a scene in which Jacqueline walked alongside her late husband's brothers during the famous funeral procession from the Capitol to St. Matthew's Cathedral in Washington.
The film was released in the US in December 2016 and was nominated for an Oscar in three categories: Best Original Score, Best Costume Design and Best Actress. Below is a comparison of stills from the film and archival footage, as well as a trailer for the film.

The meme about the smiling widow began its journey across the Internet in 2016 year, and David Rockefeller passed away only in 2017, at the 102nd year of life. By the way, he himself was a widower, since his wife Margaret (Peggy) McGrath died back in 1996. That’s why initially the captions to the photo mentioned an unknown “90-year-old millionaire.”
But just a few days after Rockefeller’s death, a variant with his last name appeared on the RuNet. In March 2017, resident of Rostov-on-Don Slava Udovenko published on Facebook, a photo of Portman and signed that the woman in black is the contented widow of Rockefeller. According to the author, at first he really made a mistake by confusing the women, but he did not delete the post, which received more than ten thousand reposts. “And then I look - there were a lot of jokes and smiles of all kinds, let it remain, I think. [I realized that it wasn’t her] when they sent me the first link to the film, but at first I didn’t recognize it, of course,” clarified He. The recordings are no longer available.
