Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu has a press secretary, Rossiyana Markovskaya. And on various social networks texts are being circulated about her, the authors of which claim: at the age of 26, a young girl received the rank of major general. We decided to check if this is actually true.
“Do you think it’s difficult to become a major general in Russia? For many military personnel who have dedicated their lives to military service, such a title seems unattainable. However, as it turned out, it is not at all necessary to reach this goal for many years. It is enough to get surrounded by the head of the defense department Sergei Shoigu. We are talking about the beautiful Russian Markovskaya, who at the age of 26 was able to receive the rank of major general.”
So begins one of the articles dedicated to the Russians Markovskaya on the portal militaryarms.ru. Such a text is not the only one - Markovskaya is discussed, for example, on "Peekaboo", periodically in "Yandex.Zene", there are such publications in "VKontakte" And "Odnoklassniki". Many texts are accompanied by the girl’s biography, her photographs and retellings of her Instagram. In the comments, social network users condemn Markovskaya.
Information that Rossiyana Markovskaya received the rank of major general began to spread on social networks in August 2020. It is not known which publication was the first, but in some posts the authors wrote: “Arriving in Moscow in 2017, Markovskaya caught the eye of Shoigu, and he took her and placed her in the position of press secretary. After some time, he issues a special decree, and Markovskaya is awarded the rank of major general. Do you think it’s deserved?”
In other texts, social network users claimedthat before becoming a press secretary, Markovskaya worked on the Zvezda TV channel and it was there that Shoigu allegedly noticed her.
The Russian Markovskaya was not really born and studied in Moscow. According to biographies on the TASS website, Markovskaya was born in 1991 in Vladivostok, in 2013 she graduated from the Faculty of Journalism of the Far Eastern Federal University. After that, the girl worked in her specialty in various publications. In 2015–2016, Markovskaya worked on the Zvezda TV channel, but after that she managed to be a TV correspondent for Izvestia.
In November 2017, Russian Markovskaya appointed press secretary of Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu. There is no evidence that they met precisely when the girl was working on the Zvezda TV channel.
On the official page of the Ministry of Defense indicatedthat Rossiyana Markovskaya is a 3rd class state councilor of the Russian Federation. This is the class rank of federal government civil servants. By table the ratio of civilian class ranks and military ranks, this rank corresponds to the level of the military rank of major. There are no other orders in which Markovskaya would be awarded the rank of major general.
In addition, Markovskaya, born in January 1991, was 29 years old at the time of August 2020. And when she was 26 (from January 6, 2017 to January 6, 2018), Markovskaya had just become Shoigu’s press secretary.
