In recent years, a quote has gained popularity in Russia, which is attributed to one of the main strategists of American foreign policy. We checked whether its author is really a political scientist Zbignnev Brzezinsky.
In full form, the distributed quote looks like this: “After the victory over communism, we need a split in Orthodoxy and the collapse of Russia. And Ukraine will help us in this, where betrayal is the norm of social morality. ” Often, it is often indicated that the source of the quote is the famous book of the Brzezinsky “Great Chess Board”. In November 2018, statement quoted Ukrainian political expert Dmitry Spivak on the air of the Newsone television channel. Quote Conducted Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Commission on the legal support of the development of organizations of the military-industrial complex of the Russian Federation Sergey Gavrilov. She has gained great popularity in social networks such as Facebook (example with 380 reposts), "VKontakte" (32,000 views publications in the community "Patriots of Russia" dated March 1, 2022) and "Odnoklassniki" (8000 views). Quote can also be seen on resources Newsland, "World of News" And on the site Center of strategic assessments and forecasts.
The American political scientist Zbignnev Brzezinsky is known as an implacable fighter with a communist regime, so such a quote from him does not look like something impossible. However, firstly, we note that Dmitry Spivak, and after him, many resources have incorrectly conveyed the name of the main work of Brzezinsky. The book is called not “External chessboard. The dominance of America ”, and“ Great Chess Board: the dominance of America and its geostrategic imperatives ”. Secondly, the Russian text of the book is in free access, and a similar quote - even with the correctness of the inaccuracy of the translation - we did not find in it. From a close on the topic only it is said that in the post -Soviet times, "communism was stuck as a betrayal of Russian Orthodoxy." Moreover, the phrase could not be found in any available statements and works of Brzezinsky in the original language.
A simple analysis shows that it was Dmitry Spivak that was the first to say a quote that interests us in the current form. But did she really not have a prototype at all? As it turns out, it was. For many years in the Russian -speaking (mainly patriotic) segment of the World Wide Web, another phrase went to the signature of Zbignev Brzezinsky: "After the destruction of communism, the only enemy of America remained Russian Orthodoxy." She was quite popular in the West, where Given local high -ranking figures of the Orthodox Church. However, we will not find this phrase in the statements of Brzezinsky. One case is known when Brzezinsky askedwho is now the enemy of the USA No. 1. He replied that the United States did not have that. It was in 2008, and in many sources the phrase about Orthodoxy dates back 2007. It is unlikely that his opinion on this issue could radically change over the year.
Moreover, this statement appeared with a reference to Brzezinsky much earlier - at least in 1997. Several journal and book publications In Russian, where it is found in the specified year. However, there is a mansion here "Independent newspaper" dated February 14, 1997. The article of the famous director Nikita Mikhalkov came out in it, in which he said: “The recently former US Secretary of State Zbignnev Brzezinsky said a mysterious phrase:“ After the destruction of communism, the only enemy of America remained Russian Orthodoxy. ” However, Mikhalkov did not bring any data when these words were heard from the mouth of Brzezinsky. In addition, contrary to the statement of Mikhalkov, Brzezinsky was never the US Secretary of State. Finally, there is no information that Mikhalkov had ever met with Zbignev Brzezinsky. It is possible that it was in his article that this phrase appeared for the first time.
And since a quote does not have a single specific author, there is every reason to consider it fake.
