Is it true that Liya Akhedzhakova opened a Twitter account?

In January 2021, an account appeared on Twitter in which the People's Artist of Russia allegedly shares her thoughts on the political situation in the country. We checked whether the posts on this page were actually published by Akhedzhakova.

According to Twitter, the account is @l_akhedzhakova was registered in January 2021, and the first tweet on this profile appeared on the morning of February 3. The entry read: “Discovered a new social network. Everything is very, very interesting. Why didn’t I register here earlier?” Within two days, tweets appeared on the account calling for the release of Alexei Navalny and Sergei Furgal, and critical comments about Russian television channels and security forces. On February 4, a tweet appeared: “Good morning everyone! They say that a checkmark is needed, it confirms that the page is genuine. Does anyone know how to get it? At the time of writing this article, the number of blog subscribers exceeded 30,000 people. The news that Liya Akhedzhakova started Twitter, published Belarusian portal Tut.by.

Thousands of people likely believed that the unverified account actually belonged to the actress due to the content of the tweets. Over the past years, Akhedzhakova has often criticized the Russian authorities. So, in 2011 she wrote it down video message to the participants of the rally on Sakharov Avenue, in 2013 condemned “Dima Yakovlev’s law”, and a year later joined to an open letter against military intervention on the territory of Ukraine.

Radio Liberty journalist Elena Rykovtseva drew attention to the Twitter account that appeared in January 2021. On the evening of February 4th she wrote on his Facebook page: “Some creatures are faked on Twitter, supposedly Leah. She didn't open anything. I didn’t ask anyone about this. No one is running this false page for her. I just spoke to her." Rykovtseva called on Twitter users to send complaints about the fake account to the social network.

In a conversation with Verified, Liya Akhedzhakova called herself a “victim” and said that this is not the first time that an account allegedly belonging to her has been registered on Twitter: “This is the fifth such Twitter since 2016, my lawyer has already been involved in blocking such accounts. But the new one is scary because some craftsman is counterfeiting my style, my manner. Already today he writes about the trial of Navalny and almost calls for people to go out - this is very dangerous!” The actress suggests that the appearance of both the last and previous accounts may be connected with Yevgeny Prigozhin and his “trolls” in Holguin. According to her, she has already contacted her lawyer so that he can sort out the situation.

Akhedzhakova emphasized that she does not maintain any accounts on social networks. “My husband tried to teach me, but I didn’t have enough time. I, of course, really wanted to, but this matter is completely beyond my control,” the actress told us.
